Designated pool day.
Drove out to Twain’s Pool Hall in Decatur for Bill and my long awaited clash over the blaize. Stopped off for croissant and coffee first though. Bill read the newspaper there and Kati stole the part with the crossword *gasp!* so she’d have something to do while Bill and I amused ourselves.
Pool hall was strange. *sulks* I’m sure Bill can’t have told me all the rules, or he was playing wrong, it made no sense at all! Seemed to me that if you fouled (sorry, scratched) your opponent lost out, or at least didn’t gain any advantage. Kept playing my usual tactics of stuffing the balls up tight to the pockets in hope of making Bill scratch, but then, say, when he potted one of my balls I didn’t get any extra shots, and often seemed to be penalised by having to replace the cue ball. Odd odd odd. Didn’t really help either that I found it really hard to tell the balls apart, and was dwarfed by the table. Oh dear. Got totally thrashed. Seemed a lot less tactical, and involved lots of straight shots. Weird.
Fun watching Bill take shots though. Hee hee.
Kati sat and did her crossword and then came over and joined in for a bit. Divided the balls into 3 sets and each had to pot our own designated range. (American pool balls are all numbered) I sucked at that too, couldn’t tell which was which and was just generally a bit crap. Oh well. Did a few worthy shots when I put my mind to it though so it wasn’t all bad. We’ll have to play British rules at some point I think!
Dinner at Trader Vics this evening with some of Bill’s friends. Got to see Bill’s attempt at fairly smart attire too. Whooo! Sat between Jim (giant scary clown) and Bill and they helped me choose which cocktail to go for. The one with the Menehune you get to take home with you as a souvenir turned out to be the obvious choice. Wasn’t too impressed by the drink though, quite tart. UGH. Also got to share a three-way drink with Ginger and Kati, that turned out to be icky too, but fun.
Took the plunge and opted for barbecued duck, veggie options seemed to contain nuts, and the smell of the wood fired barbecues was so enticing I had to give in really.
While we were waiting for our meal Jim took me on a tour of the place. It’s mental!
Had a really great meal, during which Jim and Bill had fun playing around taking freaky shots with my camera.
When I went to pay my share of the bill and I realised I’d given short. Hadn’t known you added tax on at the end separately or something. Odd. Fished out more cash.
Trader Vics wiped me out of cash, afterwards tried using an American cashpoint and totally failed. All Bill’s fault though! 😉
Got stuck in traffic on the way to the cinema. Guess there was a car crash on the road somewhere, Vile got a little stressed about getting us to the cinema on time for the showing but we were fine. Luckily we were in the right lane to come off the carriageway and didn’t have to cut across stationary traffic.
Jackass was great, audience guffawed (or squealed) all the way through it. Seemed to be some nice thoughtful touches to the direction too, but they could have just been coincidence!
Back at the house, didn’t watch Shakespeare in Love. Although for that matter didn’t really watch too much of 13th Warrior either. Kati went to bed and Vile and I curled up on the sofa with Quince and chatted our way through it. Proceded onto the porch as per previous nights and had much fun til bedtime. Said our goodnights.
Came out of the bedroom in search of a glass of water to find Bill stretched out on the floor of the lounge in the dark. He was wearing all black and looked really troubled. Wanted to hug him, and make him okay, but I think I ran away instead.
He knocked on the door a bit later, came in, all concerned. Brought up a conversation I’d had with him on Nyar where I’d been upset about a friend being inappropriate with me. Asked me if I thought he was being inappropriate. I answered no. Hmmm, probably actually the wrong response in reality, but I guess I meant that I didn’t mind his actions and wasn’t upset. Different situation. With the first the attention was totally unwanted and, yes thus upsetting. But with Bill, I had to keep checking myself because I didn’t trust myself to respond. Kept waking up wanting him to be next to me. Strange things running through my head. AGH! Not what I bargained for when I arranged to visit my friend. [totally confusing episode]
