Was so miserable this morning. Was awake most of last night fretting about my visa progress. I sent my packet 3 forms off to London on the 31st July and didn’t even know for sure if they had received them or not, while another girl posted to the forums that she had returned hers on Saturday and had been given an interview date already. Aaargh. I’d been told that London had only just got around to opening post received on August 8th, how come she had heard so quickly? Felt very sick and panicked. Both Bill and I had emailed the Embassy again to see what the score was and had heard nothing.
Finally I braved the premium rate telephone number to call the Embassy and speak to someone. Got through to a nice guy who was at least able to confirm that they had actually received my forms and my records were updated. I felt terrible when he then told me that I probably wouldn’t hear from London for another 6-12 weeks. I have a return flight booked for the 12th October. Was a pretty miserable morning for me, especially as I was surrounded by a huge heap of all the possessions I am having to dispose of.
Absently checked my email halfway through the afternoon. Hang on, post from the Embassy…
“An appointment has been scheduled for October 1st 2003.”
Wha? Holy crap! Bounced around the house like a loon. So much for 6-12 weeks! Fantastic. Tried Mum’s mobile to let her know. It rang in the house. Pounced on it gleefully, wahah! Her mobile is the cheapest way to call Bill, and if she just happens to leave it lying around at such moments, well what a shame. Phoned Bill at his work. Wahey! Probably sounded like a loon to him too. Great to hear his voice, even better to tell him my news. Hopefully the interview timing should be perfect, he’s going to come over to accompany me to London and it slots in wonderfully with an invite we have to my Aunt’s 60th birthday surprise meal. So, Bill should get to meet one half of the family without us actually having to organise anything ourselves. Score. Very excited now.
Did the happy dance with Molly.
Managed to get in touch with Nicky and reorganised her birthday meal (and now interview date celebrations) for tonight. Have spent a fantastic evening at The Ganges Indian Restaurant in Tavy with Nicky and her two sisters getting merry on Chicken Tikka Dansak and Tiger beer. Yay!
Came home and finished the evening with a touch of voddy and sat around nattering with Mel and Mum. Subjects touched upon were how both Mel and I intend to leave the country and then ship any grandchildren over to Mum and Dad while they were between the ages of 5-18. Perfect. Finally got hold of Dad at his hotel (he’s away on business) and bounced at him too.
Heh, oh and I emailed the Embassy to thank them very much for getting back to me and to express my gratitude for them having an email address to contact them with. They replied immediately to that! 😀
