Day of frustrations

Woke up this morning to the sound of Bill cursing Quincy and locking him outside as punishment for soiling the front room again. (still have no idea why the damn dog is doing this)

Really wanted to take a trip to Red Top Mountain and go for a nice walk with Bill and the dogs. This turned into a disaster because as soon as we set out the skies darkened and the further north we drove the dingier it got until it started raining. Undeterred we pressed on and were dismayed to find that the directions I’d got from the internet failed to match with the exit numbers. At some point the powers that be renumbered the exits. Great! We drove up and down the interstate catching a glimpse of Lake Allatoona from the passenger window but were unable to work out which way to go. I hate the lack of roadsigns over here. They give you detailed information on which crappy fast food restaurants are at the next junction, but don’t bother to tell you where you are or give any indication as to where you are going. Disgruntled, cursing and pretty fed up, we finally gave up having circled the area with no luck. What a lovely afternoon spent in the truck being thoroughly pissed off.

In the end we drove back into Atlanta and Bill took us to Grant Park instead. The dogs finally had a little bit of a frolic after being cooped up in the back of the truck and we tucked into our now cold and somewhat unappetising lunch we’d picked up from the Aussie bakery before we left.

This evening hasn’t been faring very well either. I’ve just been trying to make us some dinner and am not doing very well at all, what with forgetting to defrost the paneer for curry so when I went to make some Biryani I couldn’t actually cut into the pesky cheese. Added to which, I swear we bought a huge bottle of cheapo veggie oil for deep fat frying the paneer but I’ll be damned if I can find it. Plan B was to make some pasties as I’d already started on the pastry this morning and had been meaning to make a batch for the freezer this evening anyway. That went swimmingly too. Why do I always forget that we have no decent light in the kitchen and leave making dinner until it’s late and I’m practically doing it in the dark? Added to this, to get to the crockery and utensils I was stepping over piles of carpet cleaner still drying left over from Quince’s misbehaviour. That made me grumpy. Then, when everything was prepared and I was ready to add the seasoning to the mix I couldn’t find the veggie stock cubes because it was so gloomy in the kitchen. Trying to investigate the kitchen cupboards I got tangled up in the ladder when the hoover fell on top of me. Aaaarrgh! Very angry at the kitchen at this point and Bill came running think I’d been hurt. Sorry!

Just as I was about to give up I spotted the packet right in the corner of the work surface I was using, I just couldn’t see it because of the lack of light…grrrr.

Anyway, a glass of wine or two later and things are a little less stressful…especially as the tasty smell of cheese. potato and onion pasty is wafting through the house. A little late, but they’ll be good when they are ready! Yay for pasties! Hoorah for Devon and Cornwall and cunning mine’s wives!

It all sounds really stressful, poor babe.
There is only one thing a girl can do in these situations – go to the nice shop and get herself a big bar of Dairy Milk!
