Just got back from a highly entertaining evening at the StarBar. We managed to make it down to the Satanic Mechanics show that got rescheduled from Saturday due to the icy bad weather.
As usual it’s highly annoying that proceedings don’t start until very late even on workdays but both Bill and I are glad we made the effort this evening.
I got a little unstable at first as I got terribly homesick while waiting for the show to start. Standing around not really knowing anyone in a bar where it’s difficult to talk isn’t fun, makes me feel even more alone and detached. Especially when Bill knows so many people and they come up to talk to him and I just ending up standing there like a lemon.
Tonight was especially sad too because on the phone earlier my Dad told me some dreadful news about a friend of my brother’s, and of the family, having a very bad accident on his farm back home and I keep feeling just terrible for him. It also makes being away from friends and family much harder because it brings home the fact that shit happens. *sigh*
Anyway, once the milling around was done with and the Rocky Horror Star Bar extravaganza commenced it became a little easier to relax and enjoy the night out.
I really don’t know what to say about the show apart from it was great and my eyes were peeled back in awe and amazement a lot of the time as everyone brought the Picture Show to life in front of us. It was a mixture of live performance and snippets from the Picture Show (which I admit I’ve never actually seen…my experience of the Rocky Horror Show is confined to numerous trips to see it when the theatre show came to the Theatre Royal Plymouth about ten years ago. Great, that makes me feel really old btw!).
Jim was simply staggering as Frankenfurter and I am simultaneously upset and relieved that I forgot to grab the camera as we left the house. On consideration I think such visions are best left to memory rather than print!
It was also hard to tell that Mitsu was playing Janet Weiss. Very strange to see her in a long blonde wig, but she was perfect. Hilarious (in a good way!) to watch.
Shame it took me a little while to get into the bouncing timewarp mood but I had a good time regardless.
All in all a big well done to the StarBar crew and a very happy anniversary to them, may they have many more.
Actually, I feel bad at the moment about the StarBar site. I’ve been working on getting some new content up and I’m supposed to put up the weekly and monthly listing but I can’t connect to the server and haven’t been able to since Saturday night. Arrrgh! I need to get that stuff up! No one seems to know who the hosting company is either so I have no idea who to speak to about the issue…gah!
And talking about technical issues, we’re having huge problems with our cable line. The phone is sporadically working and mainly cuts out frequently during conversations, while the internet regularly throws Bill off the World of Warcraft server. Generally when he reconnects he finds himself dead and gets rather irate.
After having several terse encounters with Comcast they are sending someone out tomorrow afternoon to see if they can ascertain what the problem is. We’re pissed because if they don’t find a problem we get to pay them another $50 on top of a service we’re not currently getting. Great! I just know you can count on Sod’s Law for this one! Wish us luck though and hopefully we’ll be up and running online, and I’ll be nattering in Nicky’s ear once again very soon. (Bill says thank you very much for his birthday pressie btw. He’d like to thank you personally but can’t be arsed to go through the disconnect rigmarole with the phone at the moment! Of course…I’m still waiting for mine from LAST YEAR!!! :p )
Okay, climbing into bed now. Goodnight all!!
