new car

Seeing as how the new addition to the family isn’t exactly going to fit in the truck, and that we really need a second vehicle anyway, Bill and I went car shopping yesterday (a car for meeeee! parp! parp!). In order to take Sam home from the hospital we need to have a car seat installed, so it would help to have a car in which to install the carseat!

Before heading out Bill had already narrowed our options down to a Toyota Matrix, or a Mazda 3 and we were hoping to be able to get a feel for those models and take some test drives.

In mere hours we went from very excited to sorely disappointed. We drove all the way up to the Marietta strip of dealers only to find the Mazda dealership is closed on Sundays and the Toyota dealership had no Matrixes in stock. Bah!

We then drove back down south to Morrow and found that once again the Mazda salesroom was shut! (Though, this didn’t stop us getting out and having a good gawp at the Mazda 3 and imagining driving little Samuel and the dogs around in a pretty sparkly blue model on the forecourt.)

The Toyota dealer down the road did however have a Matrix we could look at, but the salesman was a complete arse and we were barely able to get him to unlock it for us so we could take a good look, let alone take it for a test drive. Out of curiosity we also asked to see a Scion XB and the guy muttered that he didn’t know if they had any in stock (he hadn’t known they had a Matrix either), waved us away in a vague direction and was never seen again. At this point we got pissed and left. Bah!

Anyway, tomorrow I hope we’ll have better luck because Bill’s arranged to go test drive a Mazda 3 after work. Hoorah! Parp! Parp!

    Matrix –
    Puppies go in back/hatch
    and baby is back seat

We test drove a bunch and decided with our pups the best thing was a station wagon – we wanted a honda CRV but couldnt afford it.

Find a new dealership — poooey on the bad ones!

    Hmmm

I’m really hoping we can get away with a smaller car. I hate driving our truck and coming from the UK I’m more used to smaller cars. Driving the truck feels like I’m commandeering a lunch box.

Looking at the Matrix (or maybe it was the Mazda 3, I get confused) it seems to have more room in the boot than our dogs currently get in the truck. I mean, I don’t think a baby seat is going to fit in the tiny passenger part of our truck, but that’s where our two dogs get to travel. Baby and dogs definitely need to be separated though, no climbing over the seats for our mutts anymore. I sense a dog grill in our future.

I keep telling myself that the baby won’t need much room to start with, and reminding myself that my family once went on a camping holiday to France crammed into our Citroen 2CV (you can take your own car over on the car ferry). That was Mum, Dad, my brother and I, (must’ve been around age 12?) as well as a butt load of camping gear and all our toys.

I refuse to give in and get a huge car just because I’m having a tiny little baby!! Wish me luck?

    Re: Hmmm

Hmm. We decided on a mitsubishi lancer station wagon – it is still a Small car with GREAT gas mileage but it has the back for the pugs. We do have a barrier fence because our pugs are crazy and like to play hop in the front – hop in the back — hop in the front – hop in the back –

This way we are all safe and seperated.

I would say go for a wagon of some sort – you dont need a gas guzzling thug mobile – but something you can put the car seat in, a stroller for a trip or play pen – clothes and the pets.

    🙂
