So yes, Sam and I did indeed meet Bill at lunchtime for a picnic in the park. I was about losing my patience trying to get there and we were over forty minutes late thanks to roadwork gridlock at Edgewood and Boulevard but we we made it in the end.
It was a pretty perfect way to spend a birthday lunch actually. Bill got to see Sam in action chasing around the grass and we had a lovely spot of family time before he had to go back to the office again. I even brought Genghis along with me, though I wondered if I had the right beast as he was a model dog for once.
Back at the house I dragged Sam’s play pen out into the front yard and spent the afternoon working up a sweat raking and bagging leaves. I now have over thirty filled paper yard bags lined up ready for collection and another quarter of the yard to go. *sigh* It’s a bit overwhelming. My effort is not in vain however and I feel quite accomplished, exhausted but very pleased with how much tidier the garden is looking. I even found a load of plants I’d completely forgotten about under all the leaves, as well as a key to a Jeep and a snake that hissed and tried to eat me. Sam seemed to enjoy being out in the fresh air and was very happy watching the kids over the road playing in the street and throwing his toys out of the pen into the dirt. Occasionally I’d let Sam have a run around too but then of course I’d get absolutely nothing done and instead spend my time stopping him from eating acorns.
To top off a nice day when Bill came home from work he came bearing chocolate birthday cake. I ate two huge pieces washed down with a glass of wine and Robin Hood on BBC America. Yum!
