Crikey, I was sat at home sorting out my holiday photos and going through my inbox sifting the junk from proper emails when I realised Sam and I’d completely forgotten that we were supposed to be at a friend’s first birthday party in half an hour. A mad panic dash thus ensued and Bill got Sam cleaned up while I jumped into the shower myself. We leapt into the car and I had got as far as Maynard Terrace when I glanced at the radio and noticed the clock. It read an hour earlier than I’d thought it was. I turned Bessie back around and went to find out what the real time was. Turned out that the cooker clock had been set incorrectly (thanks Dad?) and was a sixty minutes ahead. Phew! A little later we set out again and managed to arrive in a much more leisurely style.
The party was a lot of fun and I know Sam had a great time wishing Jacob many happy returns. It was held in the back of a children’s book shop in Decatur and we had story time, ice cream and cake. Sam shows no fear, and demonstrated his independence over and over again as his little legs carried him off on his own into the actual shop with me running after him. I did really begin to wish they had a baby gate to stop him wandering off so.
It was good to see everyone again after our little break in Florida. It seems strange that Sam hasn’t had any baby play time for a couple of weeks and he really liked seeing his little friends again.
Speaking of birthdays, Sam also turns one this week. I really can’t quite believe the year has flown past so quickly, but it has. This time last year I was huge, pretty fed up with being pregnant, enjoying the baby shower, and getting very excited, and nervous, about the impending labour and meeting our little one. I look at him now and it’s crazy to think he was a little bundle of baby kicking my ribs from the inside a year ago.
Bill and I are still deliberating over what to get our super boy for his special day as we’d like to get him a little trike but haven’t found the right one yet. We went to a store to try the one we were looking at online and had got excited about, but Sam wasn’t quite tall enough to reach the pedals yet. Rats. Might have to rethink that one, or maybe we’ll just get it anyway because he’ll grow into it soon enough and if we don’t get it we risk leaving it so long that then he won’t get full use out of it either.
We took Sam to Toys R Us today to see if there was anything there that he took a fancy to, but completely arsed up because we didn’t realise it closed at 6 on a Sunday. Oops. So, we took a tour around Target instead and we couldn’t resist getting a fun tugboat bath toy for him too. Can’t wait til Friday so Sammy can open his pressies and be more entranced by the wrapping paper than the actual contents!
Bill’s flying to Tampa on Thursday on business and returning on Friday. I have instructions to let Sam stay up late because although daddy has to go away he doesn’t want to miss wishing his son happy birthday. We’re then going to go visit Bill’s folks so Sam can spend a quality birthday weekend with his American Granma and Granpa.
I was asked to make Sam a wishlist of things that we think are cool so far away friends and relatives can get gift ideas. Sorry, bit late coming, but just in case, here it is:
Maybe it’ll be useful come Christmas?
