Potty training

Yesterday I found Sam on his potty. He had taken his shorts and big boy pants off and was doing a tinkle. He then made me carry it to the bathroom where we poured it into the toilet bowl. He said “good bye!” and then flushed the loo!

Potty training is being a bit hit and miss at the moment. He will do something that just astounds me and makes me think we are making progress, but most of the time Sam now just tells me he needs a clean, dry pair of pants once the pair he’s wearing is already dirty and wet. Still, that’s pretty big progress from where we were ten days ago anyway.

    Timer!
Vi and I used a timer – every 30 minutes for a week (not naps/bedtime tho) and within a week we were there. Just a normal everyday – but we had a kitchen timer and when it went off we RACED to the bathroom and it was fun 🙂

Since she was 18 months old she went before bed/on waking just for practice but I think the timer made me more aware than anything.

    🙂
    good luck!
A potty for me by karen katz is adorable too

    Thanks.

I think the problem with that idea is that Sam is obviously more ready than I am. It sounds like a good idea but I’m not sure I have the endurance for that. Still, maybe it’s worth a shot next time we are hanging around the house all day.

TMI but we were impressed last night. I’d left the potty in his room without thinking. Sam was creating havoc banging on his nursery door for attention and when I went to see him I found that he’d totally undressed himself and left us a solid present in his potty. He then hadn’t been able to sort himself out from there, had made a mess and got distressed. Poor little guy. It was straight into the bath tub while Daddy did a clean up, but we were so proud of him.
