Made it to the airport to meet Bill. Got stuck in a lift with a mulitude of baggage trolleys and a very talkative member of airport staff. Great. Hung out there for a while until staff member decided to use force and wrestle and kick our way out of the shaft. Phew.
Sat and had a (horrible) coffee and got more and more nervous and anxious while waiting for Bill’s flight to land. Finally the display showed that DL064 had landed and I went and lurked by arrivals. Streams and streams of people with ATL MCR on their luggage labels passed me by, and no Bill. I am surprised there is anything left of my lips I was chewing them so hard. Seemed to take forever and the torrent turned into a trickle before finally Bill emerged through the doors.
Bounced lots. YAY!
Stowed everything in the car, tight tight tight. Hit the M60 and headed down South.
Stopped for a break at one Service Station, it was horrible. Turned right around and carried on to the next one, Strensham, for a half decent coffee from Costa, a Mr Beak’s chicken sammich, and maybe some snuggles.
Made it down to Devon with a pretty zonked Bill and thrust him in front of my parents, hee hee. Stayed for tea and ate Daddy’s special cottage pie. Haven’t eaten beef since I was 12, yikes.
Bundled Bill back into the car and trundled off towards the cottages. Yay! Love me some country roads. Wheeeeeeee!
Nicky is a true star. When we got there she had the cottage all cosy and had filled the fridge with Strongbow, chocolate, chocolate cake, croissants and a mini bottle of champagne. Bless you! Cheers bird.
Made the most of the remains of the evening and stayed up well into the night. Mmmmm.
Bill got violently sick and had to hug the loo quite a bit. GAH! It was NOT my dad’s cooking, okay!
Bill was totally out of action and clinging to the duvet all day while I made a couple trips into Tavy and back to fetch medication and Bill friendly food. He eventually started to perk up in the end though. Phew. Did lots of lazing.
Were supposed to be going out with Nicky in the evening to the Barbican but decided that it was best to let Bill’s tummy recover somewhat. Did a sedate tour around Tavistock, stopping for coffee at Dukes. Explored one of the antique/bric a brac stores which seemed to amuse Bill no end, and he had his first conversation with a real local. He did good, especially as she asked him if he had “looked in a mirror lately?”, and that if “you young ‘uns dye your hair you go grey prematurely.” Hee hee.
Mosied back around to mum and dad’s for tea, and then Sy drove us into Plymstock to visit nanna and grandad.
Sy – “well, you can drive, or I can drive, but if I drive we’ll get back for last orders!”
Made damn sure Bill had a seat belt on.
Nanna and Grandad did the usual and got the old photos out. Oh great! Was slightly concerned by the look on Bill’s face when he was presented with a photo of 17yr old Kay in school uniform. *ahem*
Nanna and Bill talked termites.
Sy raced us back across the moors in thick fog, couldn’t see the road. Stopped off halfway at Meavy and had a drink at the Royal Oak. One pint of TPA later and Sy had bought a duck.
Back to the house to pick up Lara and trundle back to the cottages. Thanks to Sy, Bill now thinks my driving is great, yay!
Uhm, I shouldn’t be sat here writing this, we’re supposed to be heading off into Plymouth to snag some last minute Christmas shopping.
Oh, but one more thing: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BILL! xxx
